Yesterday, U.S. Representative Susan Wild (PA-07) commended the advancement of H.Res.723, her bipartisan resolution to End Sexual Violence Against Girls, through the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Introduced by Wild on World Children’s Day, the resolution encourages countries to pursue data-driven reforms emphasizes the importance of keeping girls safe.

Today, U.S. Representative Susan Wild (PA-07) voted on a resolution to remove the deadline to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), paving the way forward for passage of this historic amendment and reaffirming Congress’ support for women’s equality. The resolution, H.J.Res.79 is cosponsored by 224 bipartisan Members of the U.S. House of Representatives, including Wild. A companion joint resolution has been introduced in the Senate by Sen. Ben Cardin (MD) and Sen. Lisa Murkowski (AK).

Today, U.S. Representative Susan Wild (PA-07) announced that Carol Resh, an American Gold Star Mother from Lehigh County, will join her at tomorrow’s National Prayer Breakfast. Her son, U.S. Army Captain Mark T. Resh was killed in action during a reconnaissance mission on January 28,2007. Flying an Apache helicopter, he protected other airmen by taking on fire on his own aircraft. Captain Resh was posthumously awarded the Silver Star, the Purple Heart, and the Bronze Star for his actions that day. Prior to his service, Captain Resh grew up in the Lehigh Valley, attending Northwestern Lehigh High School and the University of Pittsburgh.

Today, U.S. Representative Susan Wild (PA-07) announced that Allentown resident Yamelisa Taveras will join her at the State of the Union in Washington, DC on February 4, 2020. Taveras is a recognized community activist and diabetes patient, who has had to ration her insulin due to high costs. Taveras has struggled with diabetes since she was a child. A graduate of Allentown High School, Taveras began rationing her insulin after she was no longer on her parents’ health insurance. Since then, Taveras has founded charitable organizations to provide aid to underserved populations in the Greater Lehigh Valley and has worked to shed light on the health needs of that same community.

U.S. Representative Susan Wild (PA-07) is excited to announce that the winner of the 2019 Congressional App Challenge (CAC) for PA-07 is Udit Garg of Parkland High School in Allentown, PA. The Congressional App Challenge is an app competition for students in middle and high school. Wild presented Garg with a commendation on January 20 to commemorate this achievement.

Wild introduced a measure to ensure that Coast Guard members — who missed their first paycheck this week — get paid for their work. She also signed on to a colleague’s bill that would offer interest-free loans to federal workers struggling to pay bills as they await their back-pay.
