Today, U.S. Representative Susan Wild (PA-07) introduced the Promoting Responsible Emergency Protocols (PREP) for all Students Act to keep all students safe when extreme weather strikes or on-campus violence occurs. During the 2017-2018 school year, 16 to 18 percent of children had a disability or developmental delay. As natural disasters such as flooding and wildfires rise in the United States and on-campus violence spikes, safety recommendations for schools and child care settings must evolve to integrate the needs of young children and youth with disabilities. The PREP for all Students Act would ensure that public schools, early child care education centers and institutions of higher education have the tools they need to develop inclusive emergency preparedness protocols. U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) has introduced companion legislation in the U.S. Senate.

As our nation faces the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, the legislation would invest more than $3.5 billion over five years to create nearly 1 million additional apprenticeship opportunities. Today, U.S. Representatives Susan Wild (D-PA) and Brett Guthrie (R-KY) introduced a resolution designating November as National College Application Month. As COVID-19 continues to complicate high school seniors’ and others’ assessment of their educational plans with fewer students applying to college and completing the FAFSA when compared to a year ago, this bipartisan effort is intended to bolster the work of college-going advocacy groups across the country working with students to help them identify their college options and move through the process.
