Today, U.S. Representative Susan Wild (PA-07) announced House passage of a $35 million increase in Mental Health Block Grants she requested. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for comprehensive mental health services has been heightened. Beginning in April, the Crisis Text Line, a national crisis counseling service, experienced 47 to 116 percent more texts per day than it received on an average day before the COVID-19 crisis A key component of the Labor – Health and Human Services funding bill, Wild’s critical increase will also set aside funds to help create 24/7 mobile crisis units.

Wild’s legislation part of House package to make health care, prescription drugs more affordable
Just days after the Administration called on the Supreme Court to overturn the Affordable Care Act (ACA), U.S. Representative Susan Wild’s (PA-07) Family Health Care Affordability Act passed the House of Representatives as a key component of H.R.1425, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Enhancement Act. Part of the larger ACA stabilization package intended to lower health insurance premiums and the cost of prescription drugs, Wild’s bill strengthens the current health care law and helps expand health care coverage for working families.

Today, U.S. Representative Susan Wild (PA-07), a member of the House Education and Labor Committee, voted to override a Presidential veto of H.J.Res.76 and support students defrauded by predatory colleges. The resolution, passed by both chambers of Congress with strong bipartisan support, would block Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos’ Borrower Defense rule that would deny debt relief for thousands of defrauded students and shield predatory institutions from accountability. The rule is set to go into effect on July 1.
