Yesterday, U.S. Representatives Susan Wild (PA-07) and Cheri Bustos (IL-17) introduced the Crisis Care Improvement and Suicide Prevention Act of 2020, legislation that would allow states to upgrade crisis care programs and strategies to meet increased demand in this critical moment. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to exacerbate existing strains, like the opioid crisis, mental health needs in the United States have reached epidemic levels and have only heightened the need for comprehensive crisis services.

Today, U.S. Representative Susan Wild (PA-07) was joined by Alan Jennings, the Executive Director of the Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley (CACLV) in a virtual press conference to announce $1.84 million in additional funding for CACLV through the CARES Act passed by Congress in March. This funding will allow CACLV to expand its critical programs to provide immediate community support through the COVID-19 crisis and build the organization’s capacity to reach more low-income families in the region.

Today, U.S. Representative Susan Wild (PA-07) released a statement following President Trump’s announcement of a plan to cap seniors’ co-payments for insulin beginning next year. In April, Wild led more than 50 of her colleagues in an effort calling for immediate price caps, through the duration of this pandemic, on the actual market price of prescription drugs that treat medical conditions most adversely affected by COVID-19—an approach that would benefit Medicare beneficiaries and those who are uninsured or are covered by other types of health insurance.

Across the country, COVID-19 has affected Black communities at disproportionate rates from their White counterparts, both in terms of susceptibility to the coronavirus and its health complications and economic challenges as a result of stay-at-home orders.
