Rep. Wild Announces 2020 U.S. Coast Guard Academy Attendee from PA-07
GREATER LEHIGH VALLEY – Today, U.S. Representative Susan Wild (PA-07) proudly announced that Lleyton Herb from Pennsylvania’s Seventh District has begun attending the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. While the U.S. Coast Guard does not require a Congressional Nomination as a prerequisite for attendance, Herb underwent a competitive application process to receive a nomination from Wild’s office and has joined the academy’s Class of 2024.
“It is a true honor and privilege to nominate some of our nation’s future leaders to attend these prestigious service academies,” Wild said. “Although a Nomination from my office is not required in order for Lleyton to attend the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, he still very successfully underwent the rigorous screening process in order to receive a Nomination from my office, as he was interested in multiple Academies. I congratulate him on his choice and know he will make all of us proud as he progresses in his career at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.”
The United States Coast Guard Academy is located in New London, Connecticut. Founded in 1876, it is the smallest of the five U.S. service academies and provides education to future Coast Guard officers in one of nine major fields of study. Ranked among the nation’s most prestigious institutions of higher learning, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy educates future leaders of America's multi-mission, maritime military force. Each year, approximately 200 graduates are commissioned as Coast Guard officers to help ensure the safety, security and stewardship of our nation’s waters.
Lleyton Herb, Bethlehem, PA
Lleyton is the son of Frank and Jenniah Herb. Throughout his high school career at Freedom High School, Lleyton excelled as an athlete and leader. He participated in both varsity rifle and varsity cross country and spent time volunteering with the Miracle League and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. During High School, he served as the Division Leader at his local division of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps. Although the United States Coast Guard Academy is unique among service academies for not a Congressional Nomination as a prerequisite, Lleyton still successfully underwent the rigorous screening process to receive a Nomination from Wild’s office, because he was interested in two different service academies. Of these, Lleyton selected the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
