Representative Susan Wild Statement on Partial Government Shutdown

Press Release

WASHINGTON—Following the partial government shutdown starting at midnight last night, U.S. Representative Susan Wild (PA-15) issued the following statement:

“With hours still left to work last night, partisanship has run rampant in Washington to force a government shutdown over $5 billion for border wall funding. While the government remains closed, more than 800,000 federal employees—12,643 workers in Pennsylvania—will be forced to go without pay through the holiday season, including FBI agents, ATF agents, DEA agents, correctional officers, firefighters and border agents. This is not how government is supposed to work, and it is certainly not how we should treat civil servants who have worked hard to earn their paychecks. It’s disappointing that while there is still a deal on the table that was able to pass through the Senate with bipartisan support, the White House is pushing to leave the government unfunded and threaten the paychecks of federal workers over the holiday over funding for an expensive and ineffective border wall.”
