Press Release

WASHINGTON— U.S. Representative Susan Wild (PA-15) released the following statement today after voting to support the bipartisan FIRST STEP Act (H.R. 5682):

“Passage of the FIRST STEP Act is an excellent first step in bringing about criminal justice reform and I commend my colleagues who worked in a bipartisan manner to get this done. This bill provides needed first steps in reforming our mandatory minimum sentencing laws and offers meaningful opportunities for rehabilitation and re-entry. Criminal justice reform must offer a redemptive second chance and these reforms bring us closer to that ideal. As the first major federal criminal justice reform legislation passed in decades, this bill opens the door for continued progress on the issue under a new Democratic majority in the 116th Congress.”
