Today, U.S. Representative Susan Wild (PA-07) voted to pass H.R. 5, the Equality Act, to ensure that all LGBTQ Americans are granted the full protections guaranteed by federal civil rights law. The Equality Act extends anti-discrimination protections to LGBTQ Americans with regard to employment, education, access to credit, jury service, federal funding, housing and public accommodations.

Today, U.S. Representative Susan Wild (PA-07) highlighted the disparities between the Allentown School District and surrounding suburban school district in a markup in the Committee on Education and Labor on the Strength in Diversity Act and the Equity and Inclusion Enforcement Act. She noted the Allentown School District, which primarily serves students of color, just narrowly avoided a financial crisis that could have prevented them from making payroll.

Today, U.S. Representative Susan Wild (PA-07) voted to pass H.R. 987, the Strengthening Health Care and Lowering Prescription Drug Costs Act. This major piece of legislation would lower prescription drug prices and reverse the expansion of junk insurance plans to defend vital protections for people with pre-existing conditions. Last week, the House passed H.R. 986, the Protecting Americans with Pre-Existing Conditions Act, which included Wild’s amendment to stop the rising cost of premiums that passed with the support of 78 Republicans .

On CSPAN, Wild Discusses Legislation to Strengthen Unions, Work on House Education and Labor Committee

U.S. Representative Susan Wild applauded the overwhelming bipartisan support of her amendment to stop the rising cost of healthcare premiums. The amendment added a provision in H.R. 986, the Protecting Americans with Pre-Existing Conditions Act, to prevent the administration or any future administrations from enacting any rules or policy changes that would increase premiums. The amendment was agreed to 301 to 112 – with a total of 78 Republicans voting in favor.

Representative, Senator Introduce Bill To Set Standards For Direct Reporting Of Suspected Child Abuse
As children across the country continue to suffer from horrific abuse, U.S. Representative Susan Wild (PA-07) and U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) have introduced the Speak Up to Protect Every Abused Kid Act (SPEAK Up Act). The bill would require states to implement a consistent standard for child abuse reporting by requiring those with responsibility over children, such as medical professionals, teachers and coaches, to report suspected child abuse and neglect directly to state authorities.
