Also introduces bill to expand higher education for students with disabilities
U.S. Representative Susan Wild (PA-07), a member of the House Education and Labor Committee, introduced H.R. 4670, the Simplifying Student Loans Act, a bill to replace the numerous existing repayment plans with one fixed repayment plan and one income-based repayment plan to make borrowing and repaying student loans easier and more affordable. The Simplifying Student Loans Act will be included as a key component of the College Affordability Act (CAA), a comprehensive overhaul of the higher education system to lower the cost of college for students and families, improve the quality of higher education through stronger accountability, and expand opportunity by providing students the support and flexibility they need to succeed. The CAA also includes pieces of H.R. 4577, the Expanding Disability Access to Higher Education Act, introduced by Wild.

Yesterday, U.S. Representative Susan Wild (PA-07) was joined in Pennsylvania’s Seventh District by House Education and Labor Committee Chairman Rep. Bobby Scott (VA-03) to learn more about how the Education and Labor Committee can support the needs of working families in the Greater Lehigh Valley. Wild and Scott led a manufacturing roundtable, a panel on early childhood education, tours of early learning centers, and a meet and greet with local labor leaders.

Yesterday in a House Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Subcommittee hearing, U.S. Representative Susan Wild (PA-07) called attention to the skyrocketing cost of prescription drugs in the Greater Lehigh Valley and urged passage of H.R. 3, the Lower Drug Costs Now Act. This bold legislation would end price gouging by pharmaceutical companies who charge Americans more for the same drugs as those sold in other countries.

Administration’s Proposed Rule Would Jeopardize SNAP Benefits For 200,000 Pennsylvanians In More Than 120,000 Households
Today, U.S. Representative Susan Wild (PA-07) joined U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) and Pennsylvania’s entire Democratic congressional delegation are pressing Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue on the Trump Administration’s proposed revisions to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) eligibility. Among other harmful impacts, the proposal would jeopardize food security for vulnerable families and have significant economic ramifications in Pennsylvania. Earlier this week Casey also joined Senate Democrats in opposing the proposed rule, noting that it is in direct opposition to the bipartisan agreement in the 2018 Farm Bill, which excluded any changes to broad-based categorical eligibility (BBCE).
